Who is John?

Hi, I'm John Everett Morton.

I grew up in Northville, Illinois, where I learned that if something breaks, you fix it.

My grandparents owned Bagwill TV & Hardware in Somonauk, where I stocked shelves, cut keys, counted inventory, installed antennas, and helped customers. At home, my parents taught me how to maintain our 100-year-old farmhouse, and I never stopped learning.

After graduating from Northern Illinois University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Time Arts, I spent many years working at 3M as a warehouse operator and trainer. Along the way I also built a career designing websites and software for small businesses and startups as an independent UX designer.

When I bought my first home in DeKalb, I spent the first year living in the basement while I renovated the main floor myself. I stripped wallpaper, patched drywall, painted, replaced outlets, installed appliances, and tackled dozens of projects. (The only things I hired out were the roof and refinishing the hardwood floors.)

I've spent my career solving problems—from training warehouse teams at 3M to designing websites and software for small businesses. John Has A Truck is my chance to put those same skills to work in a more hands-on way, helping neighbors with the projects that never seem to make it off the to-do list.

When I'm not working, you'll usually find me making art, writing music, building furniture, riding my bike or walking with my four-legged assistant, Spc. Agt. Dana Scully. If you have got a project, I would love to help.
